Connecting Two Sacred Epicenters of Uttar Pradesh
The road journey from Ayodhya to Varanasi is the most requested intercity transfer in North Indian pilgrimage tourism. Covering a distance of approximately 200 to 220 km, the drive transitions from the serene banks of the Saryu to the ancient ghats of Lord Shiva's city along well-engineered 4-lane highways.
Route Breakdown & Timings
- Primary Route via NH-330 & NH-31 (Ayodhya → Sultanpur → Jaunpur → Varanasi): This is the standard, best-maintained route. The highway is largely 4-lane divided expressway with smooth bypasses around major towns. Average driving time in a private cab is 4 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours 45 minutes.
- Toll Plazas: The route encompasses 3 to 4 automated FASTag toll barriers with minimal waiting times.
- Alternative via Akbarpur & Azamgarh: Used primarily when road widening or seasonal diversions occur on the primary corridor.
Clean Family Rest Stops and Satvik Dining
Midway along the highway near Sultanpur and Jaunpur bypasses, several modern highway plazas offer clean Western restrooms, air-conditioned family dining, and pure satvik vegetarian food options (such as Bikanervala, Sagar Ratna, and Highway King franchises).
